SEND Audit – the Directors have chosen to audit SEND across the MAC with an external partner. 4 schools have been chosen (including St Anthony’s). The process will mostly involve SENDCos but there will be some case sampling yet to be determined which will include intervention, how people have responded to reports from professionals and the construction of SEND Pupil Profiles. TD will know more after the briefing on Tuesday morning and will communicate with anyone who needs to be involved.

RE Big Books (NOT Catholic Life ones but new ones used to display RE learning) needed by TD on Tuesday for FGB please

__________________________________________________________________________

Some of you have put a fan into your classroom. There are a number of issues with this:

  1. This is an electrical item that has not been PAT tested. You must provide the receipt to Adele today to demonstrate that it has been purchased within the past 12 months Without this it must be removed.
  2. Some have been found on when there is noone in the classroom (i) wasting electricity and (ii) causing a potential risk. This must not occur.
  3. There are risks associated with fans with young children who may insert items (or little fingers). They must therefore be out of the reach of children/under direct supervision by the teacher at all times.

Transition week preparation: 1) Check lists (where are your current children going? If you think there is an error, see MB asap today) Check any who joined mid-year and ensure they are not missing from the list); 2) Preparation for Monday – think…they need to leave your classroom excited about the prospects of what next year brings. Do not overload the learning. Include oracy. Ask questions with no correct answers to increase engagement – use picture prompts. Get creative. Each year there are children/parents who are not happy with where there child is journeying to. It is not personal to you. It is usually due to friendships. If the children leave you buzzing about the prospects of next year, this will reduce the anxieties of parents. Check your planning for transition and make sure that it achieves these opportunities. Transition is Mon-Thursday lesson 1 each day.

IMPORTANT MESSAGE: The Health and Safety Executive (formal body for Health and Safety Inspections) may be visiting us. They do not need to give any notice. They have the authority to look anywhere at any time. In preparation for this the following will be taking place:

  1. Mel Grythcol will be on site all of Monday morning looking for any actions and responding to them, supported by Dave from OLSC (who has been doing CB’s checks)
  2. AC and TD will be working on the H+S Action plan all morning
  3. Justine Lomas will be on site to field any urgent issues in school as MB is out and TD is not to be disturbed. NW in front office.

RISK ASSESSMENTS – These MUST BE FOLLOWED. There is not a choice for staff to ignore risk assessments nor safety signs in the building. Should this be witnessed, it could result in disciplinary action. Please be aware of personal liability should a person knowingly refuse to follow risk assessments and Health and Safety signage.

UPDATE from Teacher Governor 11/6/25

Private and Confidential

FAO employees working at St Anthony’s CPA.

As teacher Governor, I have been asked by The HSE (Health and Safety Executive) to share this letter with you as it relates to the Health and Safety of your workplace. This follows the incident on 28th March 2025 when a pupil’s finger was injured. When an incident such as this occurs, the HSE are often asked to investigate. A long letter has been sent, the contents of which I am passing on to you.

The full letter is attached, however in summary:

  • An annual report of play equipment in August 2024 identified a potential issue with the gate concerned and categorised it as ‘low risk’. The review date for the findings of the report were not due until May 2025.
  • In March 2025, the incident occurred leading to the very unfortunate injury to a pupil’s finger.
  • Subsequently, actions taken following this incident have been deemed sufficient and as such a further response is not necessary. No further actions are needed other than ongoing Risk Assessments be completed and prompt action to eliminate or reduce the risks, where hazards are identified in the future.
  • When the HSE conduct an investigation, a fee is charged to recover their costs. As of yet, this fee has not been shared.

This outcome has been deemed as the best possible by the MAC as the HSE have informed them that no further intervention from the HSE will be taken due to the prompt actions taken since the incident and the general high standards of practice.

As the letter from the HSE contains information that can identify a pupil, this is not to be shared outside the organisation.
