A significant accident occured on site at the end of the day on Friday. All staff involved must be commended for their swift actions and exemplary care and communication.
The green gate between C3 and C1 is out of use until action has been taken to prevent reoccurance. However, any of our gates on site are potential to cause the same injury. We will be producing a risk assessment regarding the gates on site. In the meantime, please ensure the following:
1) If you are the staff member to open the black exit gates for dismissal, DO NOT allow pupils past you – hook the gate before dismissing
2) Nursery gate – minimum of 2 staff needed – one goes ahead and stands by the gate until all have gone through whilst the other staff member stays at the front of the line.
More instructions and a thorough risk assessment will follow.

Please do not allow your staff noticeboard to be projected in your classrooms as messages here are for staff only and contain sensitive information – thank you

A call for your private prayers – this week we think of AM (St C) and her family. Her younger brother is having an operation in London, which they hope will be life saving for him. Please be very aware of AM and her fragility when she returns.
Also, please keep governor – Margaret Clemson in your prayers. She has returned to hospital for emergency heart surgery this weekend. Please be aware if you have any of her grandchildren in your classes as this has been a very difficult weekend for them all.

Thank you for the excellent effort with World Book Day. I heard lots of excitement, talking about the basis of people’s costumes – articularly from the youngest children. I recognise that the week feels longer when we do these events but it is all worth it and the impact on oracy, as well as reading for pleasure, is great.

Please ensure that you are using your SOAR time as we asked. If you do a book a day…write this on the poster by your door – or make it a child’s job to write it on each day. Thank you.

A few staff have reported Chromebook trolley issues:
1/ Chromebooks need to be put back in the correct trolleys
2/ The leads must be checked after the children have returned them (lots are not being properly connected)
3/ Please use the half trolley if only a few are needed so that class sets aren’t wasted
I have witnessed this take place AGAIN this week. A class was left with a set that was incomplete whilst the half set was still sat in the Learning Hub. Also, one trolley had not been plugged in overnight. It is the class teacher’s job to ensure the returning of resources has been completed as it should be  – please support your colleagues.

Fire Alarm response and lessons learned

We do not typically practise what we experienced today as it results in children losing out on their dinners. However, what happened today led to us identifying a number of issues with such an evacuation procedure.

Firstly, we did not know what the cause of the alarm was, other than it was linked to the nursery building. It was necessary to evacuate whilst this was investigated.

  • THE MUSTER POINT IS THE SCHOOL FIELD – NOT PLAYGROUNDS. This is because we have to get away from the building in case of danger – fire/explosion/etc. For some unknown reason, some classes did not do what we have always practised. It does not matter if it is muddy or wet. This is less of a risk than being next to the building.
  • Headcounts of pupils must be taken ONCE THEY HAVE ARRIVED AT THE MUSTER POINT. As always, Fire Marshals are sweeping the building and will be sending out any who are in toilets. Classes must not wait by the building until they have gathered pupils – this increased the time taken to reach a safe exit.

We will revisit what to do with fire registers as this was also not helpful during the dinner hour.

Thank you for your support in managing what was an unexpected challenge.

ALERT: This afternoon there was a concerning fb post regarding a potential risk to safety for the local community. A parent informed the school and then advice was sought from the Police. It was confirmed that there was no threat present and there was no need for lockdown procedures. Staff acted swiftly and further appropriate action would have been initiated, if required.

Please see the letter shared with parents: Response to social media alert 17.1.25
