IMPORTANT MESSAGE: The Health and Safety Executive (formal body for Health and Safety Inspections) may be visiting us. They do not need to give any notice. They have the authority to look anywhere at any time. In preparation for this the following will be taking place:
- Mel Grythcol will be on site all of Monday morning looking for any actions and responding to them, supported by Dave from OLSC (who has been doing CB’s checks)
- AC and TD will be working on the H+S Action plan all morning
- Justine Lomas will be on site to field any urgent issues in school as MB is out and TD is not to be disturbed. NW in front office.
RISK ASSESSMENTS – These MUST BE FOLLOWED. There is not a choice for staff to ignore risk assessments nor safety signs in the building. Should this be witnessed, it could result in disciplinary action. Please be aware of personal liability should a person knowingly refuse to follow risk assessments and Health and Safety signage.
UPDATE from Teacher Governor 11/6/25
Private and Confidential
FAO employees working at St Anthony’s CPA.
As teacher Governor, I have been asked by The HSE (Health and Safety Executive) to share this letter with you as it relates to the Health and Safety of your workplace. This follows the incident on 28th March 2025 when a pupil’s finger was injured. When an incident such as this occurs, the HSE are often asked to investigate. A long letter has been sent, the contents of which I am passing on to you.
The full letter is attached, however in summary:
- An annual report of play equipment in August 2024 identified a potential issue with the gate concerned and categorised it as ‘low risk’. The review date for the findings of the report were not due until May 2025.
- In March 2025, the incident occurred leading to the very unfortunate injury to a pupil’s finger.
- Subsequently, actions taken following this incident have been deemed sufficient and as such a further response is not necessary. No further actions are needed other than ongoing Risk Assessments be completed and prompt action to eliminate or reduce the risks, where hazards are identified in the future.
- When the HSE conduct an investigation, a fee is charged to recover their costs. As of yet, this fee has not been shared.
This outcome has been deemed as the best possible by the MAC as the HSE have informed them that no further intervention from the HSE will be taken due to the prompt actions taken since the incident and the general high standards of practice.
As the letter from the HSE contains information that can identify a pupil, this is not to be shared outside the organisation.
